Wellman is a city in Terry County, Texas, United States. The population was 203 at the 2000 census.


Notable people

  • Donald Kent Davis (October 12, 1951–March 13, 2010) was a farmer and auctioneer who served as mayor of Wellman from 2003 until his death from ALS at the age of fifty-eight. A 1970 graduate of Lamesa High School in Lamesa in Dawson County, Davis and his wife, Keepa, had resided in Wellman since 1998. He was a member of the Wellman First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, mother, Gloria Davis of Lamesa; a son, Ben Davis of Weatherford, Texas; a daughter, Katie Johnson of Lubbock; brother, Phil Davis of Lampasas, Texs, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Orvis Davis (1918-1983), and his twin brother, Brent Davis. Services were held on March 16 at the First Baptist Church of Brownfield, Texas. Interment was in Terry County Memorial Cemetery in Brownfield.[3]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.9 km²), all of it land.


As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 203 people, 74 households, and 56 families residing in the city. The population density was 589.3 people per square mile (230.5/km²). There were 94 housing units at an average density of 272.9/sq mi (106.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 83.74% White, 2.46% Native American, 11.82% from other races, and 1.97% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 29.06% of the population.
