Windham is a town in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 10,709 at the 2000 census. The 2009 population was estimated to be 12,993.[1]

History

Named after Sir Charles Wyndham, 2nd Earl of Egremont, who was a member of Parliament from 1734 to 1750 and Secretary of State for the Southern Department from 1761 to 1763, the town was incorporated in 1741.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 27.9 square miles (72 km2), of which 26.8 sq mi (69 km2) is land and 1.1 sq mi (2.8 km2) is water, comprising 3.80% of the town. The highest point is Jenny's Hill, at 505 feet (154 m) above sea level.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 10,709 people, 3,568 households, and 3,018 families residing in the town. The population density was 399.6 people per square mile (154.3/km²). There were 3,906 housing units at an average density of 145.8/sq mi (56.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.89% White, 0.32% African American, 0.07% Native American, 1.56% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 0.70% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.99% of the population.
