Everything you write in this course should have a title. Your title should give your reader a clue about your guiding idea or thesis. If you can't think of a good title, it may be because you haven't yet found your thesis. A Midsummer Night's Dream is a good title for a play, but not for an essay about that play. Here are a couple of other bad titles: "Three Pages about A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Lit 131: First Writing Assignment." Here are some more promising possibilities: "The Seasonal and the Social in A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Weather and Sexual Jealousy in A Midsummer Night's Dream," "The Personification of Natural Process in A Midsummer Night's Dream."
