Material data is defined using the FEMGEN command 'PROPERTY MATERIAL type', and attached to any part or set in the model using the FEMGEN command 'PROPERTY ATTACH'.
The interface program places the following comment cards at the start of the materials section of the ABAQUS input file.

ABAQUS supports many different types of material property data. These data types are assembled into 'functional groups' under a single material name in order to provide all relevant data for a particular procedure. The interface program supports a number of material definitions which are used to define the data relevant to some of the more common ABAQUS procedures. The interface also supports an external material definition which enables ABAQUS material data to be read from file.
