Web Page Monitoring Service
Would you like to receive an e-mail or pager message if your web server
is not working properly? OIT is now offering a monitoring service for
departmental web servers that will check any URL you specify, and will
send a message if the text you expect is not returned. This service has
been used for some time to monitor pages on OIT servers, and it is now
being offered to the university community.
There are some limitations on the service. It is provided for
departmental web servers, not personal servers run on individuals'
personal workstations. Also, certain complex pages cannot be monitored
by this service, particularly those that use Java applets. But it is
almost always possible to test whether the server successfully returned
a page even if the contents of the page cannot be verified.
If you are interested in making use of this service, send e-mail to
OIT's Enterprise Systems Management group at tivoli@Princeton.edu and
include the URL to monitor, and the e-mail address to receive messages
when the service detects a problem with your URL.
