2005 Officer Elections Schedule (plan)

The Officer Elections Committee (henceforth the cmte.) can take all necessary
steps to run the elections.
In particular,
1. The cmte. may act in the name of the GSG in elections matters.
2. The cmte. may send gsg-global e-mails by a 2/3 majority vote using gsg-election
email address and listserv.
3. The cmte. may relax any deadline (within constitutional limits) in case of
emergency circumstances (e.g. university snow closure).
4. The GSG Executive Committee shall allow an elections webpage to be part of
the GSG website.
The detailed plan for the elections is as follows:
0. Election Committee formed (Dec. 8th GSG meeting)
1. Election plan reported to the Assembly (Jan. 6th by e-mail)
2. Assembly amends; approves final plan: Jan. 12th GSG Meeting.
3. Elections website created: by Jan. 15th.
4. Publicity posters: put up in residences during January.
5. Publicity e-mails: (gsg-global)

| Candidates must be nominated [no seconds required] by e-mail to <gsg-election@>. The Committee will contact each nominee within 24 hours of their nomination, inform them of the election procedure, and solicit an optional candidate statement. Statement may be freely revised until statements deadline. |
| The election committee will inform nominees of others running. Nominees who wish to be on the ballot will be encouraged to submit candidate statements. |
| Revisions of candidate statements may not be made after this deadline. The final list of candidates will include all those accepting nomination.. |
| The announcement will be made by e-mail, and also on the website. It will include the date of the candidates forum (see below). |
| Voting will be done on-line using the automated survey system. |
This election plan was written in accordance with the following Assembly resolutions:
1. The Election Committee shall have five members, including the chair.
2. The Executive Committee shall obtain on behalf of the Elections Committee and for its official use an email Listserv [gsg-elections or similar] to which all members of the Elections Committee shall be provided unmediated and equal access for the purpose of maintaining a common store of correspondence with members of the GSB. This email address must also be listed on the GSG web site in reasonable locations. As needed, the Executive Committee shall also obtain a listserv for the Elections Committee to facilitate communication within the committee.
3. The Election Committee shall be empowered to consult with the appropriate University administration to resolve issues such as:
a) the eligibility of a student (for example, membership in Graduate Student Body as defined by Constitution),
b) any legal concerns that may arise from candidate statements,
c) the number of enrolled graduate students to be used for the purposes of quorum.
4. The Elections Committee shall report an election plan to Assembly, preferably at the December 8 meeting, but no later than the January 12th Assembly meeting.
5. The election plan should include a deadline for post-enrolled students to pay their dues to be eligible to vote and serve as candidates. This deadline should be as close to the elections as possible.
6. The Elections Committee shall not accept conditional candidacies, and withdrawls shall become effective and irrevocable twenty-four hours after submission to the Election Committee.
