Chair: Shin-Yi Lin
I am a second year graduate student in the Department of Molecular
Biology. I am running for the position of GSG Chair because
I enjoy learning about and responding to graduate student issues.
Thus far, I have served as my department’s representative to
the GSG Assembly since January 2004 and as the GSG Corresponding
Secretary during this past term. I also helped organize the
first Graduate Research Symposium this fall, serving as a member
of the GRS Organizing Committee.
I believe the primary role of the GSG Chair is to ensure that
the GSG Assembly is effectively representing the opinions of
our diverse graduate student body to other members of our university.
My personal goal as a student leader is to help students make
the most of their time in graduate school both academically
and professionally. On the one hand, this involves minimizing
the stressful aspects of graduate life. On the other, this involves
promoting and supporting initiatives and resources that help
make us better researchers, mentors, teachers, and communicators.
I welcome any questions or comments you have of me. And I thank
you for your consideration!

Corresponding Secretary: Danielle Osler
My Fellow Graduate Students,
My name is Danielle Osler, and I ask for your support to be
GSG corresponding secretary. The role of the corresponding secretary
is primarily to update the GSG webpage and handle official correspondence,
but it is also important to be an engaged member of the GSG
executive committee. Here are a few reasons why I would like
to represent you:
Enthusiasm
I am truly excited about the opportunity to serve the graduate
student community. I would love to discuss what you think are
the most pressing issues of graduate students, and am excited
to find creative ways to address them. I also look forward to
interacting with students from different disciplines and immersing
myself in university life. I've already attended several GSG
meetings, and I look forward to further involvement.
Vision
I hope reorganize the GSG webpage so that it is more intuitive
and user-friendly. I also hope to make it a forum for discussion
between graduate students and for the larger university community.
More generally, I would like to see the university strengthen
its efforts to recruit and retain a diverse faculty, and reevaluate
and improve the shuttle and parking situation for grad students.
Experience
I have a lot of experience that makes me qualified to serve
on the GSG executive committee as corresponding secretary. My
experience includes:
- President, Illini Union Board, University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign
Oversaw the production of over 150 cultural, educational,
and entertainment programs and a budget of $250,000; advised
the Union directors on policy issues
- University of Illinois Faculty-Student Senate
Senator from College of Engineering and Chair of Progressive
Students Coalition
Mobilized and led 70 students of diverse cultural backgrounds
to propose curriculum changes and institute progressive student
initiatives
- Fellow, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
Developed leadership programs for University undergraduates,
including the curriculum for a new minor in leadership and
a nationally recognized leadership center; Briefed new Chancellor
and Deans on student issues
If you'd like to get a more detailed and humorous look at my
electoral platform (and see what kind of webpage I can put together
in one night), please visit my campaign website at www.princeton.edu/~dosler/danielle4gsg

Recording Secretary: Tyrel McQueen
As a first year graduate student in chemistry, I had the honor
of
representing my department in the graduate student government
assembly. I
quickly found that my services as a typist (for meeting minutes;
the current
recording secretary position is vacant) were useful, and I contributed
to
the minutes for several meetings this academic year.
Being elected to the position of recording secretary would
allow me to
have a more active role beyond simple minute taking. As a member
of the
executive committee, I would be able to push for reforms in
graduate housing
(the availability, affordability, and the draw) and health care
(particularly dental care).
I believe that I am well suited for the position of recording
secretary
not only because of my contributions to the monthly GSG meetings,
but also
because of my prior experience in interfacing with university
administration
(e.g., at my alma mater, I was one of the student representatives
to the
board of trustees). Please vote for me as recording secretary.
Thank You,
Tyrel McQueen

Recording Secretary: Annika Peter
Biographical:
My name is Annika Peter and I am a third-year graduate student
in physics.
I have been the GSG representative from the physics department
since
October 2003 and have intermittently served on the Housing Committee
of
the GSG for the past year. I was also on my department's graduate
student
committee for the 2003-2004 academic year. I am originally from
Seattle
(go Mariners!), am a proud graduate of the University of Washington
(go
Huskies!), and currently live in Butler (go mold!).
Motivation for Running:
I am running for a position on the executive committee because
I want to
be involved in resolving issues concerning graduate students.
My
experience in the GSG Assembly has informed me that this is
a remarkably
good time to be involved because the GSG's good relationship
with the
university administration. This has meant rapid (on institutional
timescales) progress on graduate student issues. As recording
secretary,
I would make sure that you are informed on our progress via
clean, clear
notes from our Assembly meetings. I would also encourage you
to become
involved in the GSG if you have a particular issue that you
want
addressed.
Thank you for reading this! And thank you for voting, period,
even if you
don't vote for me!

Treasurer: Jeffrey S. Dwoskin
I am currently the GSG Treasurer and I hope to continue to
serve. I
volunteered for the position when it was vacant in 2004, and
was then
elected to continue for this past term. Over the last year I
have worked
to reconcile the GSG budget from the past 2 years, including
the period
when we lacked a treasurer. In October, I prepared the 2004-2005
fiscal
year budget, which we are currently operating under. I also
led a
taskforce on the GSG budget to address a number of questions
posed by
Assembly and to reform the process of allocating co-sponsorship
funds. In
addition to my role in the Executive Committee, I have served
on the
housing committee and parking/shuttle committee, where we have
been
working on many important issues.
My experience as Treasurer and in the Executive Committee will
help me
serve Assembly and the Graduate Student Body. We have made a
lot of
progress so far within the GSG, with the administration, and
with the rest
of the university community. I look forward to the next term!
Thank you for taking the time to vote and participate in the
GSG. Please
stay informed through your department's representative and consider
joining one of our committees. Even a small time commitment
will be very
beneficial to our community.
I'm Jeff Dwoskin and I approved this message.

Social Chair: Megan Sullivan
I would be delighted to represent you as the GSG Social Chair.
If elected, I plan to:
- Continue traditional social events of the GSG
- Explore new activities for the graduate student body
- Search out novel sources of funding and contributions for
social activities
Over the past two years, I have enjoyed serving as the Butler
Apartment Committee Social Chair which will enhance my capacity
to serve as the GSG Social Chair. In this role, I planned several
social events for graduate students each year. Butler events
have included a Wine and Cheese, Chinese New Year, and Cinco
de Mayo. Each event involved food and a lively atmosphere for
up to 150 graduate students. My planning experience with these
events would be invaluable in planning GSG social events.
In addition to previous social planning for graduate students,
I have learned through several forums about graduate student
issues. My experience on the Butler Committee has brought to
my attention some of the most serious issues facing graduate
students. At a department level, I co-chaired our Graduate Student
Committee during the 2003-04 academic year. This committee discusses
graduate student concerns and works to implement solutions to
these issues at the departmental level and beyond.
With some previous background in graduate student issues, I
look forward to the possibility of tackling current issues as
a member of the GSG Executive Committee.
