The frames of these bicycles are fabricated in one piece by winding carbon-fiber prepreg tape or cloth into the required shape and reinforcing it at high stress locations with metal inserts or Kevlar. The Kestral was the first 'commercial' bike of this type and uses the CFPR in a design that closely follows a conventional tube frame. The Lotus (1982 design) has an air-foil section frame and CFPR wheels of aerodynamic form. The axles of this bike are cantilevered from the frame. |
