Test Samples
Shown opposite are two
sample geometries used in the tensile testing of metals. The wide
ends of these are held in the sample grips of the testing machine. The narrower
central region experiences the highest stress values and the
mechanical deformation takes place in this region.
Flat test sample
geometries are good for evaluating materials to be used in plate form,
the round sample geometry is used for the same materials if they are
to be used as extruded bars, forgings, or castings. |
