Tensile Testing and the Evaluation of Material Properties


Abstract

The tensile testing of material samples permits their mechanical properties to be evaluated. In this experiment, samples of aluminum and steel will be tested in tension to fracture, and the stress-strain curves obtained will be used to determine elastic constants, yield stress, toughness, and fracture stress information. Testing will be conducted under constant strain-rate and ramp loading conditions.
