Hydrogen Vent

The hydrogen vent permits hydrogen to be flushed through the fuel cell electrodes to remove contaminants. If the cell is showing a very low voltage in open circuit, flush some hydrogen through the cell by depressing the center of the vent for about one second. Repeat this several times if the cell does not recover its expected open circuit potential after the first try. This recovery may take several seconds. Watch the voltmeter to see the effect of the flushing.

HYDROGEN IS AN EXPLOSIVE GAS. NO FLAMES OR HEAT SOURCES MUST BE USED IN ITS PROXIMITY. TAKE CARE NOT TO LET GAS ESCAPE INTO THE ROOM !
