Flow Meter

The flow meter has a tapered glass tube containing a metal ball. The gas flow to be measured is passed through the tube and the aerodynamic drag on the ball due to the gas flow causes it to rise in the tube. The tube scale is graduated so that the ball location measures the gas flow through the tube. The scale is read at the top of the ball.

Some meters have a valve at the bottom that permits them to control the gas flow.
