Bomb Calorimeter Lid

As shown in the diagram, the lid if the bomb
is in two sections, a disc containing valves
and electrodes (394A), and a retaining ring
(103A) that screws to the body of the bomb.
The disc is pressure sealed by an O-ring
(410A) that is compressed by the retaining
ring when it is screwed down "finger tight."

The valve (A420A) allows the pressure in the bomb to be released after the experiment. This is necessary if the lid is to be removed. The oxygen connection for bomb pressurization (395A) is a one-way check valve that is self sealing when the bomb is under pressure. The electrodes for the ignition system are not shown in this diagram.
