The electrical connections to the ignition
fuse wire are made through these external contacts. The two banana plugs
should be put into these terminals once the bomb is sitting in the calorimeter.
The
diagram opposite shows the configuration of the fuse wire
that links the two electrodes inside the bomb. The wire is passed through the
hole in each electrode and crossed over itself to make a firm electrical contact.
As shown, the wire
dips down over the sample to be tested. It does not need to touch the sample
surface, but it should be close to the center of the sample in the cup and
just above the sample surface.
