Mission statement

This website is a place where Taekwondo results can be easily found and stored on a long-term basis. The focus is primarily US national events and teams. Pan American events (Pan Am championships and Pan Am Games) and international collegiate championships (World University Taekwondo Championships and Summer World University Games/Universiades) have also been included.

Sources for this information are the USTU Taekwondo journals (1979–1988, 1993–2004) and other USTU documents, such as event program books and athlete factbooks. The 1975–1990 US national championships results I was given may have been derived from a useful resource, The Martial Arts Sourcebook by John Corcoran (New York: HarperCollins Publishers, 1994). Newspaper articles have also been a useful resource, especially for Olympic Festival results.

College newspapers and archives provide some collegiate results. Since 1995, US collegiate championship results have been recorded from the events and are presented here. Earlier collegiate championships were taken from USTU journals when the information was available. The missing years are 1976–1978, 1983, and 1989. The first four years (1991–1994) of the separate color belt competition at the collegiate championships are also missing.

The Taekwondo Data site has been extremely useful for the international events and recreating the brackets for many of the early world university competitions. Whenever possible, brackets from sparring events have been converted to electronic versions and any available scores have been added.
