Independent Project

For this activity you are expected to identify a problem related to HPV design or performance, and
design and execute an experiment that will provide insight into this problem. This type of activity is an
important component of engineering.

In selecting a problem to investigate you should be careful not to be too ambitious. Select a topic that can be studied with rather simple apparatus and which will yield interesting information in a reasonable time. You may chose to work alone or with a partner. In either case individual reports must be prepared and they will be graded separately.

Discuss your ideas with us in the formative state of the project and once you have a good sense of what you want to do and how it might be done, prepare a one or two page outline of the project (a Proposal) identifying the problem, how it will be explored, and what results you expect to obtain. This should be handed in for review no later than three weeks before the start of the project. Discuss any equipment issues with us or Mike Vocaturo during your project development so that we can advise you if the needed equipment can be borrowed or made in time for your project.

This is the most important part of the laboratory sequence!

Good luck, have fun, and do a good job.
