Introduction
Personal
land transportation has a different vehicle mix and density
in various countries. This is largely dependent upon the per capita income
of the inhabitants with traffic in rich countries being dominated by the automobile.
In poorer countries the bicycle becomes the personal mechanized transport
of choice but walking may still be the primary mode of travel. The addition
of auxiliary power to bicycles (mopeds) or the use of motorscooters and
motorbikes enhances the range and loads that can be transported. The picture
shows the vehicle mix on Kham Thien street in Hanoi, Vietnam and indicates
the complex traffic flow such a street experiences. |
