Failure Mechanisms

· Nabarro-Herring creep is controlled by diffusional mass transport through the bulk of the sample.
· At high temperatures and low applied stress, bulk transport is important and the grain changes shape. The net diffusion flux is driven by the stress gradient in the sample and tends to reduce this gradient.
