| A Basis is the atom or group of atoms that is placed on each lattice point of a Bravais lattice to generate a crystal structure. The composition and orientation of the basis must be identical at each lattice point. In crystals of compounds the basis must at least show the full chemistry of the compound, but may be a multiple of this chemistry. | ||||||
