Cadmium is a metal in group IIB of the periodic table with atomic number 48, an atomic weight of 112.40, and a density of 8.65 Mg/m3. Its melting point is 320.9 C, and it boils at 7654 C.

The electronic configuration of Cadmium is (Kr)(4d10)(5s2). Its atomic radius is 0.154 nm.

At room temperature Cadmium has a hexagonal close packed crystal structure with a = 0.297 nm and c = 0.561 nm.
