| Ferrite is an interstitial alloy of carbon in body-centered-cubic iron. The carbon interstitials can occupy edge centered or face centered sites in the bcc unit cell. The iron - Fe3C phase diagram indicates that the maximum solubility of carbon in ferrite occurs at the eutectoid temperature of 727 C and is 0.022 wt % C in the iron matrix. The bcc unit cell of iron has a lattice parameter of 0.286 nm. |  |
