Powder Metallurgy
Index
Powder metallurgy is a technique for fabricating parts to near net shape by sintering metal powders to produce a dense solid. The powders may be of a pure metal, or may be a controlled mixture of different metals that will form alloys during the diffusion controlled sintering reaction. In a well designed process, 97% of the starting raw material will end up in the finished part. The diagram shows the step sequence involved in this process, including a hot forming step that is often used for high performance components.
