Super-Alloys
are high temperature alloys based on nickel in which a second phase of
Ni3Al precipitates
improve their high temperature resistance to plastic deformation, fracture,
and creep processes.
The photograph shows a crack propagating in a Ni-Al super-alloy and interacting with the Ni3Al intermetallic phase that makes deformation more difficult. The Ni3Al precipitates have dimensions on the order of 0.5 mm. |
