To be honest, this pterodactyl-like molecule is here because it is so pretty. It comes from the reaction of 1,2-dehydro-o-carborane with anthracene, and Henry Gingrich did the original work. In the cage molecule, the dots are carbons and the other vertices are borons. Take a look at those carbons- there are six bonds to carbon. What's going on?
