High Notes

By Frank Wojciechowski

Sophomore Felice Kuan sang the role of the Queen of the Night in a January production of Mozart’s Magic Flute in Richardson Auditorium. Sung in German with English dialogue, the opera featured Music 214 (Projects in Vocal Performance) students in the principal roles. Glee Club members provided the chorus, and the Princeton University Orchestra lent performers for the accompanying orchestra.

Kuan, who is from Chappaqua, New York, had not sung opera before auditioning for Music 214. “Singing is a second instrument for me,” she explains; she graduated from Juilliard’s precollege program in piano. A member of the Glee Club for the past two years, she plans to major in mathematics, with a certificate in piano performance.
