A letter from an alumnus about the July 4, 1947, issue of PAW

It was a delightful surprise to see the July 4, 1947, issue featured in the Weekly. I don't believe I ever saw it since as a member of the Class of '48.

I wasn't yet an alumnus although I did graduate that day in 1947 and participated as a choir member in that festive concert of the Boston Symphony. I wonder if it would be possible to reproduce that issue.

I suspect that the surviving members of the Classes of '47 and '48 would enjoy such a cherished memento of their involvement in teh activities of that historic week.

Your column in the issue of March 27, 2002, wrote of the manifold events of June 1947. Among those events was the 1942's Class Baby throwing out the first pitch of the baseball game against Yale.

If you could find the line-up card or roster of Yale's baseball team on that occasion, I'm positive you would see that George H. W. Bush Yale ’47 was playing first base.

On one occasion and in the briefest conversation, he told me he always like to play at Princeton's Reunions because so many were standing along the foul line heckling.
