A letter from a student seeking information for her senior thesis

January 15, 2002

Alumni, please share your memories!

I’m writing my history thesis about some of Princeton’s traditions: freshmen hazing, Cane Spree, bell clapper-napping, noisy stress relief activities from the Poler’s Recess to the Holder Howl, the Nude Olympics, and the taboo on walking out FitzRandolph Gate.

I would love to include remembrances of and opinions on these events from participants over the years. Specifically, I’d like to know the events in which you took part, whether anything unusual happened to you or your classmates during your years here, what these traditions meant to you while you were an undergraduate and what they mean to you now. If you chose not to participate in one or more of these traditions and would be willing to tell me about your decision, that information would also be useful.

I would like to be able to quote you, but will respect requests for anonymity.

Please email me at eagreenb@Princeton.edu before March 1, 2002. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you!
