The Princeton University Table Tennis Club encourages players of all skill levels to come and play at practices in a casual environment where they can have fun and improve their skills.
The Club's mission is:
The Club meets three times a week in the Group Fitness Room of Dillon Gymnasium. If you have not played in the Club before, simply show up at practice. We have paddles available in case you do not have your own.
If you have any questions/comments or want to be added to our mailing list, please e-mail us at puttc@princeton.edu.
The Group Fitness Room in Dillon Gym is located up the stairs to the right upon entering the main court area. You can reach the room by calling (609) 258-3529. Please use this number only during the listed practice times.
Practice times for fall 2006 are as follows:
Membership dues for 2006-2007 are as follows:
You can play up to two times for free before deciding to become a member of the Club. Payment can be made in person at practice, using cash or check, preferably cash.
Dillon Gym policy requires that all visitors not affiliated with Princeton University either purchase a yearly facility pass or pay a $10 guest fee at the front desk in order to use the gym facilities. Please refer to the Campus Recreation webpage for more information. First-time visitors should also contact puttc@princeton.edu.
We usually use up to six tables at practices. A table tennis robot (Newgy Robo-Pong 2040) is available as well, and can be used to improve your game. Please note that it will not be used on crowded days.
Our Club currently runs a ladder, which allows all members to compete against one another in a friendly ranking system. We might occasionally give rewards to well-performing players.
PUTTC generally hosts one NCTTA meet as well as a major tournament every season. The Club recently ran three of its own Open tournaments, and also hosted the 2005 and 2006 Garden State Open.
As a member of the Mid-Atlantic Division of the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association, we compete against other schools in the region at least twice a year. You can find out more information about Princeton's NCTTA team in the appropriate section of the website. While all students may try out for the team, the caliber of competition is currently very high. Besides official NCTTA competition, we will try to participate in friendly, informal meets with other schools in order to give all interested students an opportunity to compete.
The Club currently also offers free coaching to students on Friday evenings, given by Judy Hugh. In order to be eligible for coaching, you must be a member of the Club, and must show up to practice at least on a semi-regular basis.
Princeton University does not give scholarships for table tennis or any other sport. However, Princeton recognizes and supports athletic accomplishments and welcomes student-athletes with excellent academic qualifications. For information on undergraduate and graduate admissions, please refer to the University's Admission & Aid website.
