Triggering

Basis:

Trigger: device which activates or deactivates a timer when the graph of a waveform crosses a certain threshold.

First Trigger: activated by the initial pulse

Second trigger: activated by one of many pulses which occur following the first pulse.

Holdoff Period: length of time after the first threshold is crossed before the second trigger begins looking for thesecond threshold

Justification:

Second trigger needs to “holdoff” for a period because the initial pulse will trigger it immediately.

Because various objects reflect pulses, discretion must be used when establishing a holdoff period.

Time between pulses can be equated to distance between objects
