Comparative History of Communications and Culture

This mini-seminar (second half of semester only) will explore the comparative history of literacy, the print media, communications networks, and the electronic media.

Requirements

Auditors will be expected to do the readings for each class and give at least one oral presentation.

Students taking the course for credit will be expected to make an oral presentation on one of the readings at each session. They have two options for written work: (1) a series of five 2-3 page weekly memos on course readings; or (2) a 10-15 page paper due at the end of the semester.

Students other than graduate students in sociology are welcome to take the class.
