Podcasts What is a Podcast?

A Podcast is an audio file, in our case, a recording of a lecture or special event, along with a way to subscribe to a collection of files for automatic delivery to your iPod when it is synchronized with iTunes. The lecture isn’t live, so you can listen to it whenever you want.

How do I get a Podcast?

We recommend using iTunes which is available for both Mac and Windows. iTunes version 7 and above supports podcasting. Once you have updated or installed version 7 or above, you will need to add Princeton University’s Podcast to iTunes. To add the Podcast, follow this link to the iTunes Store and click the Subscribe button. If you are using an application other than iTunes, use the address http://www.princeton.edu/webmedia/podcast/current.xml to subscribe to the feed directly.

How do I customize the Podcast?

To set the frequency iTunes checks for new subscription podcast episodes, select the Podcasts area of your Library in the left navigation pane, and click the Settings button at the bottom of the application. Then choose an option from the Check for new episodes pop-up menu. To set the number of subscription podcast episodes iTunes automatically downloads, choose an option from the When new episodes are available pop-up menu. If you choose Do nothing, new episodes appear dimmed in the Podcasts playlist. You must click the Get button next to the episode to download it.

How do I access Princeton University on iTunes U?

A collection of individual podcasts for Princeton University departments and programs can be found on iTunes U, an area of the iTunes Store devoted to educational content. Access to this content requires that iTunes be installed on your computer. Once installed, follow this link to open the Princeton University iTunes U site.
