GLORIA! THE LEGACY OF HOLLIS FRAMPTON

Gloria! The Legacy of Hollis Frampton is a two-day conference devoted to the film, digital and photographic work of Hollis Frampton, organized by the Visual Arts Program of Princeton University. Though best known as a filmmaker, Frampton left his mark on the decades of the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s in the fields of photography, film, art historical theory, and the emerging digital arts. He stood at the historical transition point from high modernism to post-modernism and surveyed the cultural landscape with insight and wit. Events include film screenings, a roundtable discussion, and presentations of papers on Frampton's filmmaking, photographic work, and his relationship to digital media. Participants include Bill Brand, Marion Faller, Brian Henderson, Chrissie Iles, Bruce Jenkins, Barbara Lattanzi, Scott MacDonald, Annette Michelson, Melissa Ragona, Keith Sanborn, Malcolm Turvey, and Michael Zryd. The conference will be preceded by screenings at the Anthology Film Archives in New York on the weekend of October 22-24 and in the James M. Stewart ’32 Film Theater at 185 Nassau Street on the Princeton University campus.
