Small fire in McCormick Hall extinguished

A small fire in an office on the third floor of McCormick Hall prompted the evacuation of about 15 people from the building at 5:37 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4. The building houses the Princeton University Art Museum.

The fire alarm was triggered by an area rug that made contact with a heating element. The small fire was extinguished by a museum security officer.

Teams from Princeton Fire Department, Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad (PFARS), the Department of Public Safety, and Site Protection responded to the alarm. The area around the office is being cleared of smoke before the building is cleared for occupation.

No injuries were reported.
