As a certified Instructor of Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu, Richie Huynh has taught
people of all ages basic self defense, which he began practicing at age 10. Richie is also
learning kickboxing here at Princeton. Passionate in the arts, Richie played in numerous
orchestras and ensemble groups before coming to Princeton, leading his fellow musicians as a
principal chair viola player in the Minnesota All-State Orchestra and as a member of the
semi-professional Northern Symphony orchestra, and he also has won numerous state awards and
recognitions.
His other great passion was participating in medical research throughout high school,
spanning four internships in the fields of immunology to circadian hypertension to
Alzheimer’s disease and finally to cancer research. He competed as a Finalist at the
International Science and Engineering Fair four times and earned many awards, including 3rd
Place at the world competition. Richie also represented Minnesota at the American
Association for the Advancement of Science National Convention.
Richie had no experience whatsoever with dance before enrolling at Princeton, but
because Richie wanted to try something new and loves to party, he auditioned for BodyHype,
which has been a fresh blast of awesome fun since he became a member in spring of 08. Richie
initially began and also continues to dance at Princeton with the East Asian dance company
Triple 8, for which he additionally choreographs and performs martial arts fighting
sequences. Richie looks forward to spending two more ridiculously entertaining years at
Princeton.
