• Weighting of quality tests
  The default value for the weight of a test is dependant on the element type. A default of 1/N where N is the number of tests applicable to the element type is used. If the user modifies the weight of a test for an element type, they should ensure as far as possible that the weights for the other tests sum to 1, or are at least proportionally correct. The program will add the current weights across the relevant tests for the element and divide the total quality value by the total weight (which should ideally be 1). If the sum of the weights deviates significantly from 1 a warning message will be issued to the user.

  When subsequently tabulating or labelling the failed elements, the first test to fail for a given element will be marked with a symbol. An asterisk `*' will be placed next to the first parameter to fail when tabulating. To label failed elements in a mesh, a symbol indicating the particular test type will be used. So by looking at the key the user will be able to see which test failed first - relative to the order of application.

• Order of testing
  The display routines label illegal elements with a symbol at the element centroid indicating the first test to fail for the element. The default order of testing is tabulated in Table J.1 and the program will reorder the application of the quality tests based on their relative weights where appropriate.
• Relevance of tests
  The user should be aware that no test is applicable across every element type. If, for example, a value for WARP is set for TR3, it will be accepted by the command processor but it will not be used since the test is never applied. When the user tries to set a test limit explicitly for an incompatible element type a warning will be issued.

  The table of possible element type/quality test combinations is displayed in Table J.1.

• Interface elements
  Quality tests are not performed on the following interface element types: IP11, IL22, IL32, IL33, IL44, IL55, IS33, IS44, IS84, IS66 and IS88.
