It is possible to write data directly to a FEMVIEW database, out to a character file in FEMVIEW neutral format or both. The default is to write directly to the database. When writing to a character file the user may specify a file name or accept the default of JOBNAME.FMB.

 PAF-FV>D
         DATABASE
         CHARACTER-FILE <filename>
         BOTH
 DESTINATION  =>
 DESTINATION DATABASE

 PAF-FV>D
         DATABASE
         CHARACTER-FILE <filename>
         BOTH
 DESTINATION  =>d fred
 DESTINATION CHARACTER-FILE fred.fvi

The database name is an optional parameter which may be used on FEMVIEW5.0 sites but named databases. If it is omitted the default database is assumed. For FEMVIEW5.0 the user may specify to write to a database which may or may not exist. If it does exist the user will be prompted for the user,supervisor and/or project names where appropriate, depending on the configuration level. If the database is new the program will try to initialise it and so will ask the user to select the configuration level required

 PAF-FV>D D FRED
 DESTINATION DATABASE FRED
   THIS DATA BASE MUST BE INITIALISED
   PLEASE ENTER THE CONFIGURATION LEVEL =>
   1.   MODEL LEVEL ONLY
   2.   PROJECT AND MODEL
   3    USER PROJECT AND MODEL
   =>
2

If he selects '1' the program will copy the transformed data to the (named) database under the Model name, if '2' is selected the user will be prompted for the project name

     PLEASE ENTER YOUR PROJECT NAME =>
PROJ1

and if '3' is selected, in addition to the project name he will be asked for the USER and SUPERVISOR names :

   PLEASE ENTER YOUR SUPERVISOR KEY =>
JOHN
     PLEASE ENTER YOUR USER-KEY =>
TOM

The database for FEMGV has the default name and is always configured at the model only level. The user also has the option of both generating a character file and writing to the database.
