Project Support

Funding from the High Meadows Foundation, through Princeton University's Office of Sustainability -- June 2008.
Supported by a gift from the High Meadows Foundation, Princeton University's new Sustainability Plan has funded a series of initiatives under the auspices of research, education, and civic engagement. The support has been made possible by the generosity of Carl and Judy Ferenbach, the co-founders and trustees of the foundation. Funds for the EPICS course are provided to assist students in their work with local homeowners and energy evaluation of residential buildings.

EPA P3 Student Design Competition for Sustainability.
In May 2007, the EPICS team was announced as a finalist of the nationally recognized EPA P3 Student Design Competition for Sustainability. Finalists of the competition are given a $10,000 grant for work and design purposes. In addition, these finalists are invited to compete for an additional grant of up to $60,000 to further support the student project. The EPICS team established concrete objectives in their proposal to develop the Greentrofit ™ model over a multi-year period. These concrete objectives include working with a local community partner to develop a retrofitting model that integrates multiple environmental factors into its selection criteria to improve overall social utility.

  Norman D. Kurtz '58 Fund.
Through the generous support of the Norman D. Kurtz '58 Fund for Innovation in Engineering Education, the EPICS team was awarded a $1000 grant for the 2006-07 academic year. This fund is intended for groups in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Student groups are invited to apply for support for engineering projects that extend to labs and other activities outside the University. These funds may be used for consumable supplies, software, small equipment and parts, and travel for field experiments. The team has recently applied for a second round of Kurtz funding for the 2007-08 academic year.
