Plastic Deformation
· A Frank-Reed source in Silicon, in which the dislocation lines have been "decorated" with copper is shown. The red bar represents the position of the initiating segment.
· The dislocation loops show the symmetry of the {111} slip plane. The dislocation line orientation in <110> directions gives the lowest loop energy.
· The critical shear stress will be that stress that activates a Frank-Reed source and permits dislocation multiplication to occur.
