Light Alloys

· Light alloys for space, aeronautical, and other transportation applications are frequently based on the aluminum or titanium systems.

· The Copper-Aluminum binary diagram shown is complex, but the light alloys of interest are at the aluminum end of the diagram with only a small copper addition.
· In this region, the diagram has the form of a binary eutectic between (Al) and Cu Al₂, the κ and θ phases shown.
