Frosh Trip Leader Summer Letter 1 - 2009

Hey all!

Welcome to the Frosh Trip 2007 Team!  We here at the OA office are excited beyond your wildest dreams/imaginations/ YouTube videos, and we can barely wait for you to come back and help welcome the class of 2011 to Princeton.  This letter contains information about arrival and training, and we’ll also be sending it to you via E-mail.

This year, Frosh Trip will depart on Sunday, September 2.  We’ve received 503 frosh applications—about 100 more than at this time last year—and with the new financial aid policy, we’re expecting a whole lot more. We anticipate sending out a near record number of trips! It should go without saying that with the anticipated higher demand from the freshman class, we’re going to need every single leader we can get.  We’re accepting frosh based on your commitment to lead. So please let us know now if for any reason you will not be able to lead Frosh Trip this year. We don’t want to have to turn frosh away.  The cancellation deadline is June 30thPlease call us at the OA office (609)258-6230 if you need to cancel.

ARRIVAL: All leaders must arrive Wednesday, August 29 by 12 noon. If a long travel distance prevents you from arriving in time on Wednesday morning, you will be able to get into your room on Tuesday, August 28. This should give you enough time to get settled on campus and keep stress levels low during the pre-trip training days. All rooms are expected to be ready for move in and you can pick up your key from Housing when you arrive.

OA will of course be feeding you in the days leading up to the trip, starting with lunch on Wednesday. We’ll send another letter in July with details about check-in, equipment lists, and the pre-trip activity schedule. You’ll find out your trip number and co-leader(s) when you return on August 29th.

YOUR SPECIFIC TRIP ASSIGNMENT: Get excited for sweet hikes and hot and spicy views, as you have been selected to lead a backpacking trip. You will find out about your trip location and co-leader(s) when you get back on campus. As stated above, you need to be back on campus before noon on Wednesday, August 29th.

ARRIVAL – ADVANCE TEAM: We love Advance Team!!  If you signed up for Advance Team you should return on Tuesday, August 28th.  We will meet at the Equipment Room starting at 5:00 PM.  Anyone who still wishes to come back on Tuesday to help with Advance Team projects and has not signed up should email one of the coordinators.

CPR CERTIFICATION: If your CPR certification is expired or will expire by September 7 you must renew your CPR certification this summer. Contact your local American Heart Association or Red Cross for courses. Since the days leading up to Frosh Trip are so busy, it makes life much easier if you complete your recertification over the summer. We will be holding a CPR course Wednesday, August 29, 10am-1pm. Space is limited, so sign up now at the OA Tripstore.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact the frosh trip coordinators by email at oatrip@princeton.edu or at 609-258-6230. We appreciate suggestions, fan mail, friendly phone calls, and long walks on the beach.  As always, all of the latest info for leaders will be posted at www.princeton.edu/~oa/ft/leaders.  We hope you’re having a great summer!

Sincerely,
