Ancient Persian and Linguistic History: A Discussion
Kevin van Bladel’s new book Ancient Persian: A Linguistic History (Cambridge University Press 2026, Open Access) claims that the creation of the first Persian empire triggered demographic changes that caused the grammar of the Persian language to be transformed. This panel discussion will begin with the author’s presentation of the book in brief followed by reflections of other scholars on it and its ramifications.
