Soap in Motion
Steffen Berg and Sandra M. Troian
Department of Chemical Engineering
The video illustrates the various stages in the drainage dynamics of vertical soap films. A number of hydrodynamic instabilities appear, some of which have never been described in the scientific literature before. The movie was recorded in a reflection geometry using a film formed from an aqueous solution of the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate and the hydrosoluble polymer poly-(ethylene oxide).
