Infinite Elements

Infinite elements are modelled in FEMGEN using standard element types with infinite element variant identifiers (eg, QU8 Variant 61). The interface program simply disregards the node numbers in the element topology definition which are not used by the infinite elements.

The interface requires edge 3 (in 2D) or face 2 (in 3D) to be the outward pointing face of the element in order to define infinite elements correctly. No jacobian check is performed on these elements. It is thus the user's responsibility to ensure that both the sense and orientation of surfaces/bodies in the FEMGEN model follow these rules for infinite elements (see figure 2.6 ).
