External Material Files

An external material definition is also supported. This allows DYNA3D material data cards to be drawn directly from a named file in a directory specified by environment variable FG_PRE_MAT (see section 1.4).

This type of material data is accessed via the 'EXTERNAL' material type with the name of the file supplied as the material name.

PROPERTY MATERIAL EXTERNAL L196b-1 1 2

The interface program will test for both 'L196b-1' and 'L196B-1' on unix systems. Parameters 1, and 2 are the density and bulk modulus respectively. This information is needed in order to calculate the speed of sound in the material and thus give a sensible default for the suggested step time (see section 1.3).

Material file L196b-1 might contain the following data:

   10 290.1000E+01 2

Note: if both physical property and external material property are attached to the same part in FEMGEN, the physical property defined in FEMGEN is written to the DYNA3D input file, whether or not the external material file has physical property data. If no physical property is attached, the external material is written to the input file as it is defined, with or without physical property data.
