L'AVANT-SCENE IN PARIS |
Advanced L’Avant-Scène students travel to Paris, France, over the university’s Intersession holiday. This program has been sponsored and made possible by the Department of French and Italian, the David A. Gardner 69 Magic Project, the Lewis Center for the Arts, the Center for French Studies and Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies. The program is meant to offer L’Avant-Scène students the unique opportunity to enrich their discovery and understanding of French theater. Students attend plays at the Paris National theaters, where they meet actors and directors. Students also attend acting and directing classes at the CNSAD, the Paris National Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. L’Avant-Scène in Paris Program started during the 2003-2004 academic year. During past L’Avant-Scène in Paris, students have rehearsed within the walls of La Comédie-Française and the prestigious Salle Louis Jouvet at the Conservatoire, lunched at the French Senate, visited La Sorbonne, traveled to London, and enjoyed many tasty French dinners. Over the years, the program has developed to include more meetings with theater professionals and more plays to attend in a greater variety of venues. Students have also attended more classes at the Paris National Conservatory for Dramatic Arts; dividing their days between morning classes at the Conservatoire, free afternoons in Paris, and plays followed by dinner at night. Special thanks to Daniel Mesguich, Guillaume Gallienne, André and Lill Maman, Denis Guénoun, Christian Biet, John Leger, Sandy Ouvrier, and Grégory Gabriel.
