The controls for the Hydraulic pump are located on the
top left-hand side of the Load Frame base. Once
Electricity and Water have been provided to the pump,
and the Control console has verified that the system's
electronics are functioning properly, these controls
may be used to energize the hydraulic actuator that
determines the motion of the lower sample grip.

The position of the top (fixed) crosshead that carries the
load cell and top sample grip may be adjusted using the
hydraulic controls on the top right-hand side of the load-
frame base. Before moving the crosshead, make sure that the safety ring is in a suitable location. Unclamp the

crosshead and use either the Up or Down control valves to effect its relocation. After moving, reclamp the crosshead and reposition the safety ring to prevent further downward motion of the crosshead.

THE MACHINE MUST NOT BE RUN WITH THE TOP CROSSHEAD UNCLAMPED AND WITHOUT THE SAFETY RING IN POSITION!
