Load Rheostat

The load control rheostat is used in starting the engine and in controlling the load applied to the engine by the dynamometer during steady state operation. The rheostat controls the current to the field coils of the motor/generator, increasing this current increases the torque of the device.

To start the Transparent Engine: Set the Rheostat to 100, put the Load Range switch in High, put the
Field Switch in + , check that there are no obstructions to engine rotation and that the ignition is turned on, then move the Function Switch to Start. Once the engine is running, move the function switch to the Generator or Load position and move the Load Rheostat to a position that maintains steady engine operation.
