temperature and study
how this depends upon the combustion conditions. Inert gas may be added to
the flame to increase the parameter range. Decide how to make measurements of
fluctuating temperatures and how to reduce this data to useful parameters characterizing
the temperature and its fluctuation.
A diffusion
flame may be produced by turning off the oxidizer to the pre-mixed
flame. Study this mode of combustion. Vary the methane flow rate and
observe its effect on the flame structure. Design measurements to locate the
flame front under these combustion conditions. Study the effect of diluent
gas (nitrogen) on the flame structure, flame temperature and flame luminosity.
