Cantilever Brake

In this caliper design, each arm is attached to the frame and the cable from the handlebars is modified to pull on each caliper. The cable loop coupling the two caliper arms provides for equal force to be applied to each pad of the cantilever brake. Friction in the straddle wire yoke will give rise to an out of balance force on the two pads. This may deform the wheel rim and give rise to poor brake performance. These brakes are as susceptible to reduced braking with wet rims as are the caliper brakes.
