The Structure of Solids

· Crystals of Polyethylene may be grown from dilute solutions of the polymer which permit more molecular movement than a does a melt of the material.
· The photograph shows an electron micrograph of crystal, and the diagram indicates how the long polymer chains can fold and bond through secondary bonding to form an orthorhombic crystal.
